Types of Membership

There are two basic membership types: “Member” and “Observer.” Please indicate your preference during registration. Members will be able to vote for delegates. Observers will have access to information, but be unable to vote or participate in elections. Please note that observers are able to change to regular members at any time. Currently, membership is individual, though organizations may register as observers. Members must indicate a country or region of residence during registration as part of the delegate selection system.

Our Executive Committee

Our Executive Committee is formed of “Delegates” from each country or region with 3 or more members. Currently, there are 25 eligible countries and regions. The remaining are collectively represented by the Combined Region, which can also elect up to three Delegates. While Delegates represent their country or region to the ExCo, they are not authorized to represent the OTEA as a whole. The ExCo elects a Chair and two Vice Chairs each term, these three people, along with the Secretary General are authorized to speak on OTEA’s behalf. The ExCo meets 3-4 times per year or as necessary pending OTEA business or activities.

From the Start

The Ocean Thermal Energy Association (OTEA) was formally established in October 2020 as a voluntary organization to begin, guided by bylaws that were adopted by the Executive Committee at their first meeting. The first full meeting of the OTEA was alongside the 8th International OTEC Symposium (online).
